Scuba Diving
Costa Rica offers a plethora of diving opportunities. The country is quickly becoming a preferred destination for divers due to an immense diversity of marine life. Costa Rica’s best known diving site is Cocos Island off the Pacific coast. Great diving can also be found from Cano Island and the Osa Peninsula in the south to the waters off Guanacaste to the north, and the Bat and Catalina Islands to the west.
Few places in the world boast such varied and plentiful marine life in their waters. Diving can be great year-round, and visibility varies from 20 to 80 feet. Divers will find a tremendous variety of fish, soft corals and invertebrates. Most diving takes place around rock formations, usually alongside rocky islands or pinnacles located miles offshore.
Diving masters consider Coco’s Island as Costa Rica’s top diving destination, and one of the world’s best due to its biodiversity, exciting shark dives and breathtaking underwater views.
Bat and Catalina Islands are the most popular diving locations in Costa Rica. Here you will observe grouper, snapper, jacks, sharks, mantas, cortez angelfish, bright yellow butterflies and eagle rays. Great bull sharks and whale sharks are also common around the islands.
