LA AMISTAD 11 days / 10 nights
Day 1 Fly to Costa Rica. Overnight at Hotel Milvia or similar (lovely small B&B located in the suburb of San Pedro, ten minutes away from downtown San José).
Day 2 Start out this exciting tour on the Pacuare, one of the world’s most exotic rivers. Experience the thrill of Class III and IV white water rafting and the incredible beauty of the Pacuare Canyon. After rafting, transfer to Selva Bananito Lodge & Preserve. Enjoy the beauty of Costa Rica’s Caribbean rainforest, with an itinerary full of exciting adventure activities.
Day 3 At Selva Bananito, you can choose from many exciting adventure activities such as hiking through the tropical rain forest of the preserve; climbing trees over 200 feet tall using special climbing gear and canopy exploration technique; observe the primary rainforest from a canopy platform; or learn about the region’s low impact agriculture during a horseback tour.
Day 4 Selva Bananito Lodge & Preserve. Enjoy a beautiful hike that follows the Bananito River upstream, deep into the preserve. Enjoy lunch and tropical fruit juices near the scenic waterfalls. Adrenaline-rush seekers should try the waterfall rappel. Day 5 Selva Bananito Lodge & Preserve. Take the adventure horseback tour with jungle tree climbing. Climb up a gigantic Kapok tree and become part of this unique natural cathedral at 120 feet above the ground. Optional adventure tours at Selva Bananito Lodge include canopy observation from a tree platform or a 165-feet free rappel down a vertical rock wall.
Day 6 After lunch, a scenic half-hour charter flight will take you to beautiful Caribbean islands and coral keys. After immigration procedures at Bocas del Toro airport, transfer by boat to Punta Vieja on Bastimentos Island. Your base for the exploration of Bastimentos Marine National Park and beach activities will be Al Natural Resort, a true paradise for eco-tourists. Al Natural is built in an open and natural Caribbean style, and offers privacy and superb cuisine. Al Natural blends in harmoniously with the tropical forest of its own private preserve, and has miles of golden beaches. Plus, the resort faces the two most beautiful Caribbean coral islands in the Bastimentos Marine National Park. Day 7 The Zapatillas Keys are located a short boat ride away from Al Natural Resort. You can snorkel, kayak, windsurf, sunbathe, swim and relax during your stay at the resort and during your excursion to Zapatillas Key. You can also take a hike through the Old Point jungle. If you prefer, you can relax on the beach or in a hammock. (Should weather conditions not permit a tour to the Zapatillas Keys, a boat tour through a mangrove river and an Indian village will take place instead.)
Day 8 After lunch depart for Punta Caracol Aqua-Lodge, located on Colón Island. This is the largest and main island of the Bocas del Toro archipelago. The hotel is unique, built on stilts above a tranquil ocean lagoon. Enjoy romantic and delicious candlelight dinners, swim or snorkel in the calm and crystal-clear waters of the Almirante Bay, or try kayaking through the nearby mangroves, a diverse habitat with many marine and bird species.
Day 9 After all this activity, you deserve some time to rest. However, should you more activity, a tour of Bird Island will take you by boat to this interesting rock island, with its many sea bird species.
Day 10 Return to Limón by plane and transfer back to your B & B in San José. You can also book a half-hour scenic flight around Bocas del Toro before flying back to Limón, or if you prefer, fly directly back to San José.
