A renowned and award winning ecolodge, Lapa Rios sits in the heart of the rain forest in the Osa Peninsula, next to the Corcovado National Park, one of the most biologically diverse regions in the world. The hotel has 16 bungalows, all with direct ocean views of the Golfo de Dulce. Each bungalow offers a great deal of privacy with a private balcony facing the ocean. Each balcony comes equipped with a hammock, lounge chairs, and sitting chairs. Bungalows 1 - 7 come equipped with 2 queen beds; the remaining bungalows come equipped with king beds. Sustainable tourism is the mantra of Lapa Rios and it can be seen in all aspects of the operation. The bungalows have thatched roofs and screen windows and come equipped with functional furniture and ceiling fans. Lapa Rios has embarked on an aggressive reforestation project: thousands of native trees have already been planted on the immense property. Almost all the staff at Lapa Rios comes from the surrounding community and Lapa Rios is also involved in funding the local school.

Be prepared for a substantial amount of walking if staying at Lapa Rios. The ecolodge is built on a steep hill, with the lobby / restaurant at the top and the latter numbered bungalows down below. Bungalows 1 & 2 are located very close to the main building and are typically reserved for those with mobility issues. While the property does sit on a private and pristine beach, access requires a challenging hike. Ocean based activities are part of the tour repertoire, including surfing, sports fishing, dolphin watching expeditions and other marine observation trips.
