Our 8 night / 9 day Costa Rica Family Adventure Vacation Package focuses on the jungle region of the Tortuguero National Park in the Caribbean Northeast, with a two day stop in the rainforest region of the Arenal Volcano, ending at a secluded beach resort in the Guanacaste Region, near the town of Nosara. This package combines the wildlife watching opportunities in the Tortuguero Canals – including the renowned turtle nesting beaches of the NE Caribbean with the numerous adventures available in Arenal. Sun and relaxation are featured in Nosara and the Guanacaste beaches. Popular modifications to this package include changes of the beach hotel or destination, extending the stay in Arenal and adding specific tours and activities based on each family’s unique interests.
Day 1: Arrive at the San Jose International Airport. After clearing immigration, continue down the escalator where there will be a contact person with a sign posting your name in the customs area. After collecting your luggage, this person will take you to meet your driver as you exit the San Jose International Airport. Board the van for the transfer to the City Hotel and check in.
Day 2: The staff from the Tortugero Hotel will pick you up at the hotel. You will be travelling with a bilingual naturalist guide on an air conditioned bus. Drive through Braulio Carrillo National Park, where you have the opportunity to see beautiful views and abundant vegetation. On the way we will stop for breakfast. After breakfast you will continue to your trip to Matina deck driving by banana plantations. Board the boat to the lodge, passing the Tortuguero canals. At the lodge, your rooms will be assigned and the guide will explain the afternoon activities, the visit to the Turtle Museum of the C.C.C. (Caribbean Conservation Corporation) and to the colourful Tortuguero town.
Day 3: Optional tour to admire the awakening of the wildlife of Tortuguero. Return for breakfast. Then another boat tour to admire the canals of Tortuguero National Park. This is a wonderful and interesting experience where you can see abundant flora and fauna of Tortuguero National Park. Return to the lodge for lunch and time off for a siesta, enjoy the pool or go for a walk to the beach.
Day 4: After an early breakfast, board the boat that will bring you to the local pier. Board the van to start the private drive to the Arenal Volcano Region. This drive will take you through the Sarapiqui rainforest region to the San Carlos flatlands. This area is one of the country’s most productive regions, with forest and wood industries, cattle ranches and agriculture. This is the top region for growing oranges, yucca and other root vegetables. Arrive at Arenal and check into your hotel.
Day 5: Day at your leisure to enjoy the hotel and the Arenal Region. While in Arenal, we recommend: (activities optional, not included):
Relax at the country’s top hot springs resorts featuring breath-taking volcano views and lush tropical gardens. Some of Costa Rica’s top spas and therapists make Arenal their home. (The hot springs are included for those staying at Arenal Kioro or Tabacón Grand Spa.)
Visit the Fortuna River Waterfalls, located a short three miles from town. Here, you can see magnificent waterfalls cascade into the rainforest and have the opportunity to hike and swim in the river.
Go rafting on the Sarapiqui River. The river has Class III and IV rafting for adventure aficionados and Floating Safari Class II rafting for slower paced, nature lovers. Both are excellent tours featuring amazing scenery, interesting wildlife and thrilling adventure.
Try canyoning, one of the country's top adventure activities. Rappel down five walls, including four waterfalls, inside the rainforest -- truly an unforgettable experience! Tour the forest from the Hanging Bridges Tour. This is an impressive hike in the rainforest over a series of suspension bridges. View various types of flora and fauna at differing heights—from the ground to well above the canopy. What a way to see the jungle!
Experience the thrill of traveling through the canopy of the rainforest on the Sky Trek aerial Tram, one of Costa Rica’s most popular tours. Enjoy the rain forest from this unique vantage point and a get a real adrenaline rush!
On your way to El Castillo and the Sky Trek, stop at the Arenal National Park where you will learn all about the Arenal Volcano and its history.
Extreme adventure aficionados will thrive during a visit to the Venado Caves. Spend 1½ to 2 hours on a guided visit, climbing walls, sliding through mud-holes, hiking in underground rivers, and exploring these unique caves. Your clothes are likely to be ruined, but the adrenaline rush makes it worth it.
Overnight in Arenal.
Day 6: At time to be determinate check out of the hotel and board the van for a short transfer to the airstrip. Check into your flight departing to Nosara . Upon landing board the van for the transfer to the Nicoya Region. Arrive and check into your room at the beach hotel. Take the rest of the afternoon and evening to enjoy the hotel and explore the region. Overnight at your Beach Hotel.
Day 7 - 8: Enjoy your Guanacaste Beach Hotel and the Nosara Region. Top recommended activities include in and off-shore fishing, surfing, tours on horseback and ATVs, snorkelling and the local canopy tour.
Day 9: At a time to be determined, check out of the resort and meet the driver in the main lobby for the transfer to the Liberia International Airport. Arrive and check into your flight back home.
