Tamarindo / Flamingo
The Tamarindo / Flamingo area, in the heart of the Guanacaste beach corridor, is home to one of Costa Rica’s first marinas. Many fishing records are set in this area. April through September yield superb catches. The region hosts many top international fishing contests, including the Presidential Challenge, which takes place in the summer (June to September).
The Tamarindo/Flamingo corridor is home to great beaches and top resorts and hotels. There is a wide range of lodging options, from boutique hotels to large resorts featuring golf, tennis and spas. Memorable Costa Rica highly recommends that you book in this region if you are looking for to play golf in addition to your fishing trip, or if you are traveling with companions who don’t fish but who want to participate in activities such as adventure tours or spa days.
Avoid booking fishing trips to this region in Guanacaste from December through March, as strong northern winds significantly affect the fishing possibilities. Most boats are moved to the southern regions in the Central and South Pacific, and return at the beginning of April.
One of the advantages of Guanacaste is the recent availability of commercial flights landing at the Liberia International Airport. Boarding these flights will allow you to arrive directly in the region and transfer to your hotel within 45 minutes. Please ask about this alternative when booking your fishing vacation to Costa Rica.
