Central Pacific / Los Suenos
Although the region’s official name is the Central Pacific, veteran fishermen know it as Los Sueños (the dreams). The Los Sueños Marina is top ranked, its facilities being among the best in Central America, and its location guaranteeing great fishing all year. Boats can easily move south in the winter and north in the summer, following the currents and the schools of fish.
Over 100 boats are docked in the Marina and many are available to visitors looking for an exciting fishing outing. Most feature experienced bilingual crews and top-of-the-line professional fishing equipment.
The top hotel in Los Sueños is the five-star Marriott Resort. It is an attractive deal during the low season, but rooms are hard to book during the peak tourist season. The hotel is within walking distance of the Marina.
For groups of three anglers or more, the condos at Los Sueños provide a great alternative, with access to the private pools and beach club. Dining options are available both at the hotel and near the Marina. Other local alternatives are found in Herradura Beach, a short walk or drive from the resort area.
Jaco is the town closest to Los Sueños, and it’s known for its great restaurants and nightlife. Jaco is a surfer’s town with plenty of action during the twelve months of the year. Memorable Costa Rica does not recommend many of the hotels in Jaco, but we do strongly suggest that you visit for the food and entertainment. If you are not driving, a taxicab can get you there in 10 minutes.
While there is no airport or commercial landing strip in the area, it is only a two-hour drive from San Jose, making it the region closest to the capital. Most tourist shuttle buses have daily schedules to and from the area.
