Fishing Across Costa Rica
Costa Rica is a relatively small country, with a long coastline on the Pacific Ocean, and a smaller shore on the Caribbean. Fishing conditions differ along the Pacific coast, as winds, currents and fish migration will have a direct effect on the success of your trip.
We have divided the fishing regions into four main categories on the Pacific side, plus the we provide information regarding the northern Caribbean region of Barra del Colorado. Along the Pacific shores, the north is comprised of the Guanacaste Province, with Papagayo / Playas del Coco and Tamarindo / Flamingo as the main fishing centers. The Center Pacific includes Los Suenos and Quepos, while the areas of Corcovado / Golfo Dulce are the main sites in the Southern Pacific Region. The Nicoya Peninsula, while not as popular among anglers, is a fourth option along this coast.
In order to learn more about each region, get a full description on the seasons and recommended times to visit, please check out our web pages on each of the fishing regions. Keep in mind that it is ideal to visit each region during peak fishing months.
